Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Sam Adeyemi, has alleged there was no primary by All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The lawmaker said Ahmed Usman Ododo, the winner of the contest, was unilaterally chosen by the incumbent governor, Yahaya Bello.
He said he has never seen that level of imposition and rigging in the history of Nigerian politics and warned that the trend, if not checked, would become another menace to the country’s democracy.
Adeyemi, who said, in the recent elections, his senatorial district polled the second largest vote in the entire state, wondered how the same senatorial district, where he serves as senator, would give him just 300 votes in the primary.
He claimed the unfair treatment meted to him in the primary was due to his insistence to be in the gubernatorial race, even when other aspirants from his senatorial district had all stepped down for the governor’s anointed candidate.
When asked if he’ll go to court to seek redress, Adeyemi said the party has its own processes and that he would duly follow the process, and that he would only approach the court as a last resort.
He said where all efforts to seek redress for what he called daylight robbery fails, then he would hand the mater over to God who is the Supreme Judge to all.
Adeyemi polled 300 votes in the Kogi gubernatorial primary, while Ododo scored 78,704 votes.
