The Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, has declared that the party is a national one and not limited to Kano State.

Odeyemi stated this against the backdrop of a recent claim by former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who described NNPP as a “Kano party”.

Oyinlola, a former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had in a recent interview referred to NNPP as a Kano party when he was giving his opinion on the political party under which Governor Ademola Adeleke can contest for his second term in office.

Odeyemi, in a statement made available to Daily Sun, said, “Oyinlola really goofed on his opinion. Although Kano State is the party’s pride, the party was in existence before it secured Kano State.”

The NNPP chairman stressed that the party won outrightly in 2023 in Kano State based on citizens’ wish and can never be compared with a political party that people have not tested with power.

Odeyemi noted that Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has been a good ambassador of NNPP and people can easily see what the party has in stock for the masses through the programmes of Governor Yusuf.

He challenged Oyinlola to name a state where the Accord Party that he favoured has been in power and name its achievements.

Citing the example of the Alliance for Democracy, Odeyemi said Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the only governor of the party when he was the governor of Lagos State before his achievements gradually enticed people of other states.

He opined that NNPP will take over many states in the 2027 general elections because of the many feats that the Kano State Governor has attained.

He hinted that Governor Adeleke will be welcomed in the NNPP if he wishes to contest under the platform of the party.
