NNPP distances self from Ibadan opposition summit, affirms readiness for 2027

The Agbo Major-led New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has firmly distanced itself from the recently concluded opposition parties’ summit in Ibadan, declaring it had no hand in the gathering.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the party’s National Chairman, Agbo Gilbert Major, said no recognised leader of the party attended the meeting, nor was the NNPP officially represented.

He warned that the presence of expelled members at the summit should not be mistaken for party participation, urging coalition organisers to beware of individuals allegedly parading themselves as NNPP representatives for personal gain.

Major also revealed that the party held a “productive engagement” with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on April 23, 2026, where it demanded the immediate recognition and upload of its duly constituted National Working Committee (NWC) on the commission’s portal.

He cautioned that failure by INEC to comply with existing court judgments could force the party to join calls for the removal of its leadership, insisting that respect for the rule of law is non-negotiable in a democracy.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the NNPP said it has already submitted its schedule of activities to INEC and is fully prepared for the polls.

Reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy and national development, the party described itself as a strong platform for credible leadership and invited Nigerians who believe in a “New Nigeria” vision to join and contest for positions up to the presidency.
