The media consultant to Nnewi United, Ugochukwu Ifeanyi has defended allegation against the club’s Sporting Director, Olisa Onuchukwu, who was accused of fraudulently diverting the N2.8 million allegedly meant to secure clubs for three players in Azerbaijan.

Mr. Ifeanyi, while reacting to an online report, accusing Onuchukwu of allegedly defrauding Anambra State PDP Chairman, Ndubisi Nwobu and his boys said the club’s Sporting Director had used his contacts to place many Nigerian players in clubs abroad, adding that the case involving Nwobu fell through because the boys had no previous club history nor documented video presentation of their skills, strengths and weaknesses.

“This caused a delay in the successful placement of the said players within the timeframe, but progress had been made to that effect.  However, Hon Nwobu felt that the timeframe had elapsed and thus, did not want to offer a time extension on the agreement and wanted his money back. He went ahead to make a report at the Anambra State Police, where Onuchukwu was invited for questioning on Wednesday, 14th November 2018.

“To this effect, Onuchukwu despite spending time and resources on the project, agreed to refund Nwobu and made out a post dated check to him. Onuchukwu later terminated the programme, owing to issues arising from new visa guidelines, cases of fraudulent officials, as well as conditions needed to ensure club placement for inexperienced players in Europe,” he stated.

Mr. Ifeanyi maintained that Onuchukwu had in the last 20 years genuinely committed resources towards helping local players, secure clubs and opportunities across Europe, using legal and trusted channels.

“As an ex-international, Onuchukwu used his contacts to establish the outfit, but just like any business, some deals go through, while some do not and such was the case involving the Anambra State PDP Chairman, Ndubisi Nwobu and his boys. Nnewi United FC stands by our Sporting Director and have no doubts about his integrity and professionalism both on and off the pitch.
