The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced the mobilisation of its members to express strong opposition to the proposed Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NISTF) Amendment Bill as the Senate holds a public hearing on the legislation today.
In a media invitation issued over the weekend by the NLC Head of Information and Public Affairs, Benson Upah, the Congress described the bill as “highly dangerous” and said workers would turn out in large numbers to register their displeasure.
According to the statement, NLC members will assemble at the Labour House Secretariat on Monday, 1 December 2025, at 8:00 a.m., from where they will proceed in a mass procession to the National Assembly Complex for the hearing.

The notice read, “In response to the invitation from the Senate to the public hearing on the highly dangerous NISTF Amendment Bill, Congress has mobilised its members in their numbers to register its displeasure or outrage.
“You are please invited to cover right from the Secretariat where members mass before moving to the National Assembly.”
The proposed amendment has drawn growing concerns from organised labour and other stakeholders, who fear it could weaken protections for workers and alter the structure of social insurance in ways they consider unfavourable.
