There was an atmosphere of excitement and celebration across communities in Nkporo, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State on Monday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa, distributed cash gifts and relief materials to women and elderly residents in all the wards of Nkporo.
The humanitarian intervention, which drew large crowds of beneficiaries, was widely applauded as another demonstration of Ukwa’s commitment to improving the welfare of women, the elderly and other vulnerable members of society amid the prevailing economic challenges.
Represented at the event by the APC Abia North Deputy Chairman, Chief Mba Imo, Ukwa personally conveyed his message of solidarity to the beneficiaries, reaffirming that the welfare of women would remain a central pillar of his legislative agenda if elected to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives.
According to him, the outreach forms part of the sustained humanitarian interventions of the Ikenna and Jenn Ukwa Foundation, a non-profit organisation he co-founded with his wife, Lolo Jennifer E. Ukwa, which has continued to provide support to thousands of vulnerable persons across Arochukwu and Ohafia Federal Constituency long before his aspiration for elective office.
Speaking during the distribution, Chief Mba Imo said the empowerment programme reflects Ukwa’s long-standing passion for uplifting the less privileged and ensuring that no vulnerable family is left behind.
“This act of giving has become part of him. It is one of the core objectives of the foundation. Long before seeking elective office, Chief Ikenna Ukwa had dedicated himself to serving humanity through consistent interventions that have positively impacted lives across the constituency.
“When elected, the welfare of our women will remain a top priority. Beyond periodic assistance, we will introduce sustainable empowerment programmes that will improve livelihoods, promote self-reliance and ease the daily economic burden faced by families,” he said.
He further highlighted several interventions already undertaken by the foundation, noting that it is currently sponsoring the education of indigent pupils and students through the payment of school fees and registration for external examinations in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.

According to him, the foundation has also distributed food items to vulnerable households, provided business grants, and empowered artisans with working tools to enable them to expand their businesses and become economically independent.
The beneficiaries, comprising women and elderly residents from all wards in Nkporo, expressed profound appreciation for the gesture, describing Ukwa as a compassionate and dependable leader whose philanthropy has consistently touched lives across the constituency.
In separate remarks, the women noted they had witnessed firsthand the impact of his humanitarian initiatives, including educational support for indigent children, assistance to widows and regular interventions targeted at vulnerable groups.
“We have seen his good works over the years. He has paid school fees for our children, supported widows, empowered many families and today he has remembered the elderly. This kind of love and compassion is rare. We thank God for giving us a son like Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa,” they said.
The women unanimously pledged to mobilise overwhelming support for Ukwa ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that his consistency, accessibility and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people have earned him their confidence and loyalty.
The event concluded with prayers for Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa and his wife, Lolo Jennifer E. Ukwa, as beneficiaries offered songs of thanksgiving and appreciation for what they described as a timely intervention.
Among dignitaries present were the Ohafia Local Government APC Women Leader, Ward Women Leaders from across Ohafia Local Government Area, community stakeholders and party faithful who commended the initiative and described it as another testament to Ukwa’s people-oriented leadership and enduring commitment to grassroots development.
