The Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Justice Babatunde Adejumo, has warned court registrars, bailiffs and other judicial support staff to desist from unwholesome practices capable of bringing the judiciary into disrepute.
Adejumo gave the warning while declaring open a workshop on case management organised by the NJI for court staff drawn from the filing process, registry operations and process-serving units.
He said any judicial worker found culpable of leaking judgments, taking bribes or engaging in related misconduct would face legal consequences.

The NJI Administrator said the quality and efficiency of justice delivery depended as much on the professionalism of court support staff as on judicial pronouncements themselves, noting that every motion filed, document received, case scheduled, record maintained, oath administered and process served contributes directly to the integrity of the legal system.
He described case management as one of the defining benchmarks of an efficient judicial system, saying courts are now expected to deliver sound verdicts within reasonable timeframes and through procedures that are transparent and responsive to public needs. Achieving this, he said, requires coordinated effort between judicial officers and the personnel who handle the administrative and procedural dimensions of litigation.
Adejumo said the workshop was designed to deepen participants’ understanding of contemporary case management practices, covering case flow management, records administration, filing procedures, service of court processes, registry operations, and the integration of technology into court administration. He added that sessions on professional ethics and strategies for improving court efficiency would also form part of the programme.
He commended the NJI’s Board of Governors for recognising that judicial excellence cannot be achieved without a workforce that is knowledgeable and committed to high professional standards. He specifically appreciated the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the NJI Board of Governors, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, for her commitment to judicial reform and capacity development, as well as the Chairman of the Board’s Education Committee, Justice John Inyang Okoro, for his guidance. He also thanked heads of courts present and the facilitators for supporting the Institute’s training initiatives.
