The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, is transforming buses belonging to the Zamfara State Transport Express Company into cargo vehicles.

This was part of a partnership between the NITT and the state government to boost transport sector in the state.

A statement at the weekend by the transport company said 10 of the buses are undergoing refurbishment at the NITT Painting Booth.

As part of the project, four buses have already been successfully converted from passenger vehicles into cargo carriers.

The refurbishment process involves extensive panel beating, mechanical repairs, and professional painting. Work is still ongoing on the remaining six buses, which are at various stages of completion.

This effort aligns with the state government’s recent initiative of introducing 50 new 18-seater buses into its passenger transport fleet.

On October 19, 2025, Governor Dauda Lawal unveiled 50 brand-new luxury 18-seater buses equipped with cushioned interiors, seatbelts, and a reliable suspension system suitable for rough terrains.

The vehicles are also fitted with GPS tracking devices to enable real-time monitoring of their location and performance.

Governor Lawal said the initiative reflects his administration’s resolve to replace the old habits of waste and mismanagement with a renewed focus on efficiency, sustainability, and service delivery to the people of Zamfara State.
