The Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi N Nandap, has vowed to remain resolute in the Service’s mandate to secure the nation’s borders despite the recent attack in Kebbi State that claimed the lives of its officers.

In a statement by ACI AS Akinlabi, Service Public Relations Officer, Nandap confirmed the violent and coordinated attack by unidentified armed men on the Bakin Ruwa Checkpoint, under the TUGA Border Patrol Formation in Kebbi. She affirmed that the Service would not be deterred, and ordered immediate tactical response, deployment of reinforcements to the affected formation, and intensified joint operations with other security agencies.

“Enhanced intelligence-gathering has commenced along the entire Tuga axis, with heightened patrols to deter further threats and restore full security control of the area,” the CG stated. “The NIS remains resolute in its mandate to secure the nation’s borders and will not be deterred by acts of criminality. We urge the public to remain calm and to cooperate with security agencies in their efforts to secure the nation.”

Condemning the attack, the CG extended heartfelt condolences and unwavering support to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the fallen personnel, honouring their selfless sacrifice and commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s borders.

The incident, which occurred at about 2200hrs on Thursday last week, claimed the lives of three gallant NIS personnel in the line of duty. Several operational assets and facilities at the location were also destroyed.
