The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has concluded its annual Quality Management System (QMS) stakeholders’ engagement across five international airports.
This is a part of its efforts to strengthen aviation safety, enhance service delivery, and sustain its ISO 9001:2015 certification for aeronautical meteorological services.
The 10th edition of the meeting, held in Port Harcourt, Lagos, Kano, Enugu, and Abuj,a brought together representatives from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCOL), Nigerian Air Force, Department of State Services (DSS), ministries, and host communities.
Director-General/CEO of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, represented by senior officials in each location, said the engagement was designed to strengthen collaboration and ensure continuous improvement in line with international best practices.
To him, stakeholder feedback remains central to NiMet’s drive for quality improvement, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
At the Lagos meeting, held at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, participants discussed weather hazards affecting flight operations and mitigation strategies.

They were also briefed on NiMet’s Electronic Flight Folder, a digital tool providing real-time meteorological data and flight documentation for pilots.
In Port Harcourt, Kano, and Enugu, participants commended NiMet for timely forecasts, improved data accuracy, and deployment of OPMET services.
NiMet also announced the implementation of ISO 45001:2022 Occupational Health and Safety Management standards at its forecast offices to ensure safe and globally compliant service delivery.
Stakeholders, however, called for the operationalisation of Automatic Terminal Information Services (ATIS), renovation of meteorological offices, improved access roads to Meteo stations, provision of buffer zones around sensor sites, and capacity-building for NiMet staff.
Participants also commended the agency for recent innovations, including the deployment of an electric vehicle for airside operations in Kano.
With the completion of the nationwide engagement, NiMet reaffirmed its commitment to delivering world-class meteorological services, enhancing aviation safety, and maintaining compliance with international standards set by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
