The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has been honoured with the prestigious award of ‘Aviation Sector CEO of the Year 2024’ by Independent Newspapers Limited.

At a colourful and well-attended ceremony held at the Expo Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Saturday, 15th March 2025, Professor Anosike was recognised for his proactive efforts in transforming NiMet within a short time.

The citation also mentioned the agency’s valued contributions to various socio-economic sectors of the country through partnerships with local and international institutions.

The citation said, among other things, “We particularly note your agency’s issuance of early warnings aimed at preventing the loss of property, including farmlands, and lives, especially to floods across the country due to climate change, which is a threat multiplier.”

Professor Anosike dedicated the award to the hard-working staff and management of NiMet and thanked the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, for his supportive leadership.
Keyamo also received the Minister of the Year 2024 award from the organisers.
