Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the 50th convocation ceremony of the University of Lagos (Unilag), has reassured Nigerians of the commitment of the President Muhamudu Buhari’s administration to implement projects geared towards improving lives.

Presenting the convocation lecture titled: “Nigeria Rising: The Path to Prosperity,” the VP said the choice of this topic must have been informed by the curiosity of the university on what to expect of the Buhari administration in the next four years as well as the meaning of that expression, ‘The Next Level.’

“The Next level is not just an electioneering slogan. Perhaps I will start by affirming the belief of the Buhari administration that Nigerian prosperity means a decent existence for all. The prosperity so defined will be attained if we are able to address the issues of extreme poverty, productivity, corruption, rule of law, the deficiencies in the quality of human resources caused by poor education and health care.

“Our country is set for progress. Our problem has never been ideas or plans. Our problem has been on how to implement such plans. We know that President Muhamudu Buhari is not an orator but a doer and on this one he will do,” he said.

Osinbajo who is an alumni of the institution, highlighted some progress the Federal government had made in agriculture, education, innovation and technology. He outlined some projects they are currently executing to impact on the people. Some of them according to him included social investment programme, school-feeding programme and government enterprise programme.

As part of the activities to mark the 2019 convocation, the VP commissioned some projects in the university to promote teaching and learning. They are the Olympic swimming pool and electronic score board at the Unilag Sport Centre, Academic Publishing Centre, New Pharmacy Building at the Unilag Medical Centre and the new Engineering lecture theatre. He also unveiled the 26th edition of NUGA-Unilag Mascot ahead of the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) to be hosted by Unilag later in the year.

Some dignitaries at the convocation lecture were the chairman of the occasion, Ambassador Arthur Mbanefo; governor of Ekiti state, His Excellency, Kayode Feyemi; Pro chancellor of Unilag, Dr Wale Babalakin and Professor Oyelowo Oyewo, former Dean, Faculty of Law, Unilag among other.
