Nigeria’s national tennis team departed early Monday for Rabat, Morocco, ahead of a decisive 2026 Davis Cup World Group II tie against the North African hosts on September 19-20 at the Union Sportive des Cheminots de Tennis du Maroc.
The team, flying with Royal Air Maroc, is chasing a first-ever win over Morocco after losing all four previous meetings between the two nations. A win would send Nigeria into the Davis Cup World Group I for the first time.
The squad completed a three-week training camp to prepare for the tie. Head Coach Benson Ishicheli will lead players Daniel Adeleye, Canice Abua, Michael Emmanuel and Yusuf Abubakar to Morocco, where they will be joined by Oluwaseun Ogunsakin, who has recent Grand Slam experience at Roland Garros and the US Open, to complete a five-man squad.
Nigeria qualified for the tie after defeating Uzbekistan in February, marking the country’s return to this stage of Davis Cup competition after three decades. The winner of the September 19-20 tie advances to Davis Cup World Group I.
