What was planned as a day of celebration for the family of Mrs Oluranti Olufunmilayo Esther Akinyemi has turned to mourning after she tragically took ill and died hours after arriving the United Kingdom to attend her son’s graduation ceremony.
It was learnt that Akinyemi flew from Nigeria to the UK to attend the ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, but suddenly suffered cardiac arrest after her arrival.
She was subsequently rushed to two hospitals but died three days later despite receiving medical attention.
In a post on Tuesday, an X user, @dhkrullah disclosed that her family is seeking public support to repatriate her body to Nigeria and cover funeral expenses.

“She travelled to the UK to attend the graduation ceremony of her son (happening tomorrow 18/02/26)
“However, less than 20 hours after arriving in the UK, she suffered a sudden cardiac arrest in the middle of the night and was rushed to Luton and Dunstable Hospital.
“After three days on life support, she was declared clinically dead.
“What should have been a celebration has become a devastating loss for the family.
“They urgently need support to repatriate her body to Nigeria for burial, settle outstanding medical bills in the UK, and cover funeral expenses.
“This tragedy was sudden and completely unexpected,” the post reads in part.
