Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that he does not want to be involved in Nigerian politics, describing the country’s political environment as “evil.”
Davido made the remarks in a post on social media while reacting to criticism surrounding his support for his family during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
The singer said he stood by his family without bringing anyone into the political process or receiving assistance from others.
“I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!!” Davido wrote.
He criticised those who had attacked or condemned his involvement, describing them as “ruthless” and “disgusting.”
Davido added that he had fulfilled what he considered his responsibility to his family and did not intend to remain involved in political activities.
“I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil AND I DON’T WANT TO BE A PART OF IT TILL GOD HELPS US!” he said.
The singer had been vocal in his support for his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the governorship election.
Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, won the election with 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
The governor subsequently secured a second term in office, while Davido celebrated the victory and defended his family amid political exchanges during the election period.
