Nigerian Navy brings medical outreach to Boro Pit Community

From Aniekan Aniekan, Calabar

The Nigerian Navy Ship Victory has extended its medical outreach, tagged “Medical Rhapsody,” to the Boro Pit Community in Calabar, Cross River State.

The medical outreach, which is a quarterly health intervention by the Navy, saw over 1,500 members of the community receive treatment for various medical ailments.

Speaking while flagging off the exercise, the Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship Victory, Commodore Ajomabi Oride, said the exercise is in line with the directive of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I.E. Ogalla.

He said with the exercise, the Navy hopes to bond with its host communities and win the support of community members for their operations.

“The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I.E. Ogalla, launched Operation Delta Security 2 last year to curtail crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.

“He also graciously granted that we should conduct corporate social responsibility for the communities that are around our area of operation.

“NNS Victory, alongside the Reference Hospital Calabar, decided to conduct this Rhapsody so that we can meet the health challenges of some community members.

“The essence is to ensure that we bond with the community and get them to support our operations.

“If they are not healthy, they cannot go about their normal duties, and it will tell on our operations,” he said.

The community received treatment for various ailments, including those with eye challenges who got free eyeglasses, as well as free food.
