Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) has  announced its upcoming Golf Tournament scheduled to hold  November 8, 2024.

According to the chamber, the event represents more than just a game of golf.

” It symbolizes our commitment to fostering stronger business relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, while promoting the crucial message of health, wellness and success in both personal and professional spheres.”

In his address, Chairman of the Nigeria-British Golf Tournament, Mr Uwamai Igein, noted that  NBCC has always recognized that strong business relationships are founded not only on economic exchange but also on the shared values that bind us as partners, stakeholders and innovators.”Today, as we announce this significant event, we highlight one of the most important values for sustainable success—our well-being.”

Igein invited  business leaders from both Nigeria and the United Kingdom to participate, not only for the love of the game but for the opportunity to build meaningful connections that will drive shared economic goals.

“Together, through sports and business, we will continue to advance the prosperity of our nations.”

Highlighting the importance of Health and Fitness in business success, the Chairman cited the old saying that “a healthy body equals a healthy mind,” adding that he  believes this idea lies at the very heart of both personal and professional achievement.

“The fast-paced, high-stakes world of business requires us to be at our peak in every area of life, and this includes our physical health. Regular exercise has been proven to improve not just physical fitness but also mental clarity, creativity, focus, and resilience—all critical components of business success.

“Golf, in particular, is a sport that fosters these attributes. It is a game of strategy, endurance, and patience. It demands discipline and focus, as each swing, each shot, and each decision must be made with care. In many ways, golf mirrors the very qualities required to excel in business—foresight, precision, patience, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. It teaches us that in business, as in sports, success is rarely achieved through short cuts but through careful planning, execution, and endurance.

“But beyond the metaphorical lessons, the physical benefits of exercise cannot be overlooked. We live in an era where stress, long hours, and sedentary lifestyles are common in the business world. These pressures can lead to burnout, poor decision-making, and eventually a decrease in productivity. Studies have shown that exercise boosts the release of endorphins—our body’s natural stress relievers—and improves overall mental well-being, thereby helping us to approach challenges with a clearer mind and a more positive outlook.”.

The chairman viewed that  for the members of NBCC and its partners in the UK, promoting health and wellness through sports like golf is a powerful message, as  it  demonstrates “our commitment not just to economic growth but to the well-being of our community.

“It is a statement that success in business should never come at the expense of personal health, but rather, that personal health should be a key driver of professional success.”

He said while the event emphasizes health and wellness, it is equally about fostering stronger business ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, adding that the Chamber’s vision is to create an environment where Nigerian and British businesses can thrive and grow together.

He noted that the event will showcase the potential of Nigerian industries to our UK partners, highlighting sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, technology, and services.

” It will also provide Nigerian businesses with greater insight into the UK market, creating opportunities for exports, partnerships, and knowledge exchange. “As we all know, golf tournaments are renowned for their ability to generate informal yet impactful business conversations. The relationships built on the green will serve as a foundation for future collaborations that benefit both nations.”
