Five Nigerian artists are set to fly the flag of the country at a major art exhibition to be held in Budapest, the capital city of Hungary.

The exhibition to be held under the aegis of NK Art Space in collaboration with The Brush Cartoon and Animation Centre Ltd will bring together contemporary African artists whose practices reflect the diversity, complexity and evolving language of African art today.

The artists to feature include Albert Ohams, Nurudeen Odeniyi, Ajibo Ikechukwu, Opara Onyekachi, and Bali Audu.

In a statement made available to Sunday Sun, the organisers noted that the presentation “explores identity, heritage, memory, culture and contemporary African experiences, adding: “Distinct artistic voices are brought together to create a dialogue between individual narratives and broader questions of belonging and representation.

“Rather than presenting a singular definition of African art, Beyond Borders embraces multiplicity. Across painting, mixed media and contemporary visual practices, the five artists reinterpret familiar cultural references, personal experiences and social realities through their own distinctive visual languages.

“At the heart of the presentation is an interest in how African stories are seen, remembered and reimagined. The works move between tradition and contemporary life, intimacy and collective memory, the personal and the universal.”

For NK Art Space, the collaboration with The Brush Studios, it was further gathered, “aligns with its mission to bring Nigeria’s socio-cultural image to the international market. The presentation represents an extension of its commitment to creating platforms for emerging and established African artists and connecting their practices with new audiences beyond borders.

“These five voices are coming together not simply to represent Africa, but to contribute to a broader global conversation through art,” the statement noted.
