Police in the western India state of Goa have arrested a Nigerian man, Omorigo Friday, for alleged possession and peddling of cocaine valued at about 15.89 lakh (app. $17,479) in the international market.

Press Trust of India reports that operatives of the Goa Police Crime Branch conducted a raid in Pilerne, North Goa, on Friday.

Operatives seized 31.794 grams of suspected high-grade cocaine during the raid, after arresting 42-year-old Friday.

During interrogation, Friday was said to have provided information that led to the arrest of his alleged accomplice, Sudhir Paleinkar, 42, a resident of Sangolda in North Goa, on February 8.

The police detained both suspects as investigations continue into the source of the drugs and possible links to a wider trafficking network.

Both suspects are expected to face charges under relevant provisions of India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
