The 2024 Nigerian Army Inter-Brigade competition organised by the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, ended in Minna the Niger State capital with the resolve by the military authorities to ensure healthy competition and training among the officers and soldiers in other to enhance their professional competence in all areas.
Declaring the four-day competition closed at the Artillery Brigade, Minna cantonment on Saturday, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army Kaduna, Major General Mayirenso Saraso said as the Nigerian Army continues to forge ahead, training and retraining through healthy competition remains the best warfare a soldier can have.
The GOC who was represented by the Commander, Artillery Brigade, Minna cantonment, Brigadier General Hamidu Bobbo, maintained that the 1 Division will continue to implement various training programmes and competitions in line with the Army headquarters directives.
According to him “new skills will continue to be acquired; areas of weakness will be strengthen out and areas that personnel are strong will be consolidated.”
He pointed out that in line with the Chief of Army Command philosophy, the Nigerian Army must continue to engaged in training and retraining of officers and soldiers in other to sharpen their professional competence, especially in the face of the current security challenges in the country.
Earlier in his good will message at the occasion, the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Dr. Umoru Farouk Bahago, commended the Nigerian Army for living up to expectations in its war against insurgents, bandits and other criminal elements across the country.
The royal father said that the security challenges in the country had over stretched the army, but pointed out that their sacrifices towards ensuring peace and security in the country will never be in vain.
The competitions ended with the 3rd Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Kano, emerging the overall winner with a total score of 380. The host brigade, 31 Artillery, Minna, cantonment came second with 370 scores while 1 Division, Kaduna, came third, having scored 330.
Events competed for during the four- day competition include Weapon Handling, Skills at Arms (Shooting),Combat, Swimming, Map Reading and Obstacle Crossing/Physical Fitness.
Prizes were presented to the winners, including individual soldiers who excelled in their various games.
