A Nigerian-American citizen and serving United States Army personnel, Mustapha Yusuf, has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, for his commitment to professionalism and the rule of law, while appealing for urgent intervention in the investigation of an alleged threat to his life.
In a petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Yusuf requested the immediate intervention of the police leadership in an investigation being handled by the Homicide Section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos, over allegations of threat to life, intimidation and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
According to the petitioner, the complaint was filed against a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Yusuf stated that following the submission of his petition, detectives attached to the FCID commenced investigations into the allegations. During the process, a woman ,whom he alleged was sent to monitor or ascertain his whereabouts, was arrested and reportedly made a voluntary statement to investigators.
He further disclosed that police subsequently invited the lawmaker to respond to the allegations. According to Yusuf, she was first requested to appear on June 16, 2026, but failed to honour the invitation. He added that she later indicated she would report on July 16, 2026, but again did not appear, while another reminder issued for July 20, 2026, was also allegedly ignored.
The petitioner expressed concern that despite his repeated follow-up with investigators, the matter appeared to have stalled, heightening fears for his safety and undermining his confidence in the pace of the investigation.
“I am increasingly concerned that the investigation appears to have stalled despite the respondent’s repeated failure to honour police invitations. This has heightened my fears for my safety,” Yusuf stated in the petition.

While appealing to the Inspector-General of Police, Yusuf commended the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, saying the Force had continued to demonstrate professionalism, accountability and respect for the principle of equality before the law.
He stressed that his request was not for preferential treatment but for due process to be allowed to run its full course without regard to the status or public office of any individual involved.
Yusuf urged the IGP to direct that the investigation at the FCID Homicide Section, Alagbon, be reviewed and expedited, ensure that all lawful investigative procedures are deployed to secure the cooperation of all relevant persons, and guarantee that the investigation is conducted impartially, professionally and without fear or favour.
He also appealed to the police authorities to take every lawful step necessary to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The petitioner expressed confidence that the Inspector-General would give the matter urgent attention, adding that he remained optimistic that the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of IGP Olatunji Disu would ensure fairness, justice and the rule of law for all parties involved.
The allegations contained in the petition remain claims by the petitioner, and there is no indication in the petition that the lawmaker has responded publicly to the allegations. The police investigation is ongoing.
