Nigeria witnesses 312% increase in Burger consumption from 2023

Glovo, one of the world’s leading multi-category apps just released a report on Burger consumption in Nigeria to celebrate International Burger Day which happens May 28 annually.

According to Glovo’s latest report, burger consumption in Nigeria experienced a staggering 312% increase in the last 12 months.

 

Fridays are the busiest days for burger orders, with March 1st seeing the highest consumption at 1,080 burgers. The dry season witnesses a 35% increase in burger orders compared to the rainy season, with August being the peak month. Notably, the peak time for burger orders is 2pm which shows that Nigerians prefer burgers for lunch.

 

Glovo has played a pivotal role in satisfying the growing demand for burgers across Nigerian cities. Lagos Island leads with the highest burger consumption, closely followed by Ikeja. Similarly, Abuja experienced a remarkable surge of 1,681%. Ajah, Festac, and Ikeja witnessed increases of 606%, 543%, and 462%, respectively, reflecting the growing desire for fast food in Nigeria.

 

The report also highlights the dominance of chicken burgers, accounting for over half of all burger orders. Beef burgers followed closely, growing by 86%, while cheeseburgers saw a massive 2,806% surge. When it comes to size, Nigerians like it extra large- with ‘double’ burgers growing 1,191% in the past 12 months. Local flavors are rising in popularity with the ‘Suya Burger’ growing by +663% during the same period.
