Nigeria unveils star-studded squad for Budapest

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has announced the athletes who will fly the country’s flag at the 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championships, with a mix of proven stars and rising talent set to compete in Budapest, Hungary.

The team blends established stars with emerging talent across individual and mixed relay events.

Former world record holder Tobi Amusan leads the women’s contingent, having been listed for the 100m hurdles as well as the mixed 4x100m relay.

In the men’s 100m, Kanyinsola Ajayi will carry Nigeria’s hopes, while Udodi Onwuzurike is set to compete in both the 200m and the mixed 4x100m relay.

Ella Onojuwvevwo will line up in the women’s 400m, and Ezekiel Nathaniel will contest the men’s 400m hurdles.

Nigeria’s mixed 4x100m relay team is made up of Alaba Akintola, Favour Ashe, Miracle Ezechukwu, Udodi Onwuzurike, Rosemary Nwankwo and Tobi Amusan, giving the country another shot at honours on the international stage.

The squad brings together athletes who have already made their mark at major international competitions, with Ajayi, Ashe, Amusan, Nathaniel and Onwuzurike among those expected to draw attention in Budapest.

With a mix of speed, experience and youthful promise, Team Nigeria will be looking to make a strong showing at the championships and further boost the country’s standing on the global athletics scene.

The squad was announced by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) on Tuesday.
