Nigeria has signed a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) with Trinidad and Tobago, which will enable designated airlines from both countries to operate passenger and cargo flights under mutually agreed terms and conditions.
The agreement was finalised on Monday in Trinidad and Tobago during a visit by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, alongside Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinanan.

According to Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to Keyamo, the agreement is the result of years of diplomatic negotiations that originated during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration. Keyamo said that proactive negotiations by his team led to the eventual signing of the agreement.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Keyamo said, “Today’s achievement not only honors a bilateral vision set in motion during President Obasanjo’s tenure but also underscores Nigeria’s dedication to expanding its global aviation influence. This pact will drive trade, tourism, cultural exchange, and stronger connectivity between Nigeria and the Caribbean.”
Sinanan said he is optimistic about the potential of the agreement to improve collaboration, which will create opportunities for Caribbean and African carriers.
