The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to inter-agency and international cooperation in combating transnational crime.

Egbetokun made this pledge during a meeting with Lord David Hanson, UK Minister of State for Home Affairs, at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, on Tuesday.

Lord Hanson highlighted the growing threat of transnational crime, particularly fraud, as a major concern for both nations. He expressed his pride in the existing collaborative efforts between the UK Government and the NPF in tackling cybercriminals and voiced his anticipation for strengthened cooperation in the future, according to a statement.

Hanson affirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force, especially in cybercrime, and anticipated signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance this partnership.

Egbetokun welcomed Hanson’s remarks, noting that the visit underscores the strong Nigeria-UK partnership.

The IGP further appreciated the support and partnership being extended to law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, the statement added.

He proposed a fellowship exchange programme with the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to foster deeper collaboration. Egbetokun reiterated the Force’s dedication to working with relevant organisations to minimise crime.
