WorldSkills International has placed Nigeria in the 83rd position in the World Skills Acquisition Index.
This followed the efforts of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) in promoting skill acquisition programmes in the country and the establishment of the World Global Skill Academy in Abuja.
Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Dr Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun disclosed this at the ITF 55th anniversary and his third year at the helm of affairs of the organisation of the Fund on Thursday at its corporate headquarters in Jos.
Dr Ogun explained that the achievements recorded so far reflected the breadth of the ITF’s global recognition as it entered its next phase as an organisation.
He reiterated that the overall goal was to see the Fund as the leading development agency on which Nigeria could rely to facilitate the development of the national economy.
He said, “Our initiatives, combined with the development of talent export pathways for skilled Nigerians, are providing opportunities for artisans and technical professionals to compete successfully in the global labour market while also contributing to national economic growth.
“I want an ITF that adds value by assisting Nigeria in becoming a leader in the international community. I’d also like to see an ITF that competes favourably with other learning and development agencies worldwide.
“I would also like to see ITF grow not only into a household name where every young Nigerian would see it as a pride of place to belong to in terms of actualising their career prospects, but also as an organisation that will lubricate the country’s industrial hub by ensuring that industries in the country operate optimally.”

The DG admonished the staff to be more proactive, effective, creative, and resilient, as well as working more intensely to achieve the vision of the organisation.
He commended the vision of the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating policies and programmes that have so far facilitated the growth of the ITF and the country in general.
“As we move into this new phase in the Fund’s history, I urge us to continue to imbibe and exhibit our core values of Integrity, Efficiency and Effectiveness, Commitment, Loyalty, Teamwork, Professionalism and Creativity. These values have been instrumental in building the ITF we are all proud of today.”

He asked Nigerians to key into the vision of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration as it offers the best alternative in revamping the economy and restoring the country to a path of peace and prosperity.
