The Achimota Cricket Ovals on Sunday was filled with festive activities especially with Asian and European communities trooping in to watch beautiful cricket games.

While a lot of fanfare and cricket actions were noticeable in the Group A tussle between Zimbabwe and Namibia, Nigeria lost by 47 wickets to Tanzania in their first Group B match.

Tanzania was the first to bat and scored 131 runs from 120 balls in the first inning. Nigerian bowler, Joshua Asia took 3 Tanzanian wickets to help slow down the 6th ranked African team.

The second inning chase for Nigeria was not very promising as the 10 batters were all dismissed in 18.3 over. Nigerians total runs were 84. Joseph Adedeji was Nigeria’s lone star in the batting department as he scored 25 runs off 33 balls before being caught by Mohammed Yunusi of Tanzania.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe defeated Namibia by 35 runs.

Nigeria will play their next match against Namibia this afternoon, 1:50pm local time.
