Nigeria’s U-18 men’s and women’s basketball teams have discovered their group-stage opponents for the 2026 FIBA U-18 AfroBasket Championship scheduled to hold in Côte d’Ivoire from August 5 to 18.
The draw, conducted on Sunday at the FIBA Africa Secretariat, placed Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigers in Group A alongside hosts Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt and Chad.
The Nigerian side will battle the trio for a place in the knockout stage of the continental championship.
Group B comprises Mali, Madagascar, Gabon and Morocco, while Group C features Cameroon, Tunisia, Rwanda and Senegal.
In the women’s category, Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress is drawn in Groups C alongside Cameroon, Senegal and Tunisia.
Host Cote d’Ivoire leads Group A and will battle Central Africa Republic, Uganda and Kenya while Group B will see Mali, Morocco, Egypt and Benin do battle for honours.
The draw ceremony was conducted by FIBA Africa’s Head of Competitions, Madame Lea Kana, with assistance from Brou Edith, Patricia Lourougnou and former Angola international Victor Muzadi.
Nigeria’s teams will be aiming for strong performances in Abidjan as they seek continental glory and qualification for future international competitions.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria teams arrived Abidjan for the championship Sunday night.
