From Olanrewaju Lawal Birnin Kebbi
The Nigeria Defence Headquarters has sought the co-operation of people of Kebbi State for it to defeat bandits in the area. The Director of Defence Information, Defence Headquarters, Brig-General Tukur Ismaila Gusau, stated this during a courtesy call on the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, in his office in Birnin Kebbi.
Gusau explained that the public has to realise the need to give adequate information to the army for the troops to defeat the insurgents.
According to him, “before now, Kebbi State was relatively more peaceful than Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and Kaduna states, but unfortunately it has also fallen into insecurity. So, based on that, we felt that there is a need to get the maximum cooperation of the public.
“We don’t believe that the Armed Forces can do it all alone. We should find solutions to insecurity together. Ours is like a 30 per cent role, while the public has to contribute 70 per cent of the solutions.”
Gusau explained that the CDS believes in the involvement of the public in order to win the war against insurgents, warning that he would not tolerate unprofessional conduct from any officer.
He assured that the army would continue to protect people who give out information about the terrorists and other criminals’ movement.
Alhaji Ahmed, who commenced the Defence Headquarters for protecting the lives of Nigerians, disclosed that the Kebbi State Government had been providing a lot of logistics for troops on the frontline to enable them to defeat the enemies of the nation.
He urged the Defence Headquarters to hold a town hall meeting with traditional rulers across the country, especially the Emirs in the North so they would urge their subjects to support the army on its mission.
