First Lady of Nigeria Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerians to choose love over division, peace over conflict and hope over despair as the country marks its 66th Independence anniversary.
She called on Nigerians to promote peace, tolerance, dialogue and national unity, describing the country’s diversity as one of its greatest assets.
The First Lady made the call in her Independence Day message to Nigerians ahead of the October 1 celebration.
She said Nigeria’s journey since gaining independence in 1960 had been marked by resilience, sacrifices and the determination to overcome challenges while working towards a stronger and more prosperous nation.
“Since gaining independence in 1960, we have overcome various challenges, embraced change, and continued to build a stronger and more prosperous nation,” she said.
Mrs Tinubu stressed the need for Nigerians to sustain the values of unity and patriotism, noting that the country’s diversity must be nurtured through mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence.

Quoting American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr, she said, “Love is the most durable power in the world.”
She urged citizens to embrace love and hope as they collectively work towards building the Nigeria of their dreams.
The First Lady also prayed for God’s blessings on the country, asking for divine protection for Nigerians, strength for national unity and wisdom for the nation’s leaders.
She further prayed for enduring peace, prosperity and progress for the country as it celebrates 66 years of independence.
Mrs Tinubu congratulated Nigerians on the anniversary, expressing hope for a more united and prosperous nation.
