•As Super Eagles starts AFCONQ on bright note
The Super Eagles of Nigeria began their AFCON qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Nigeria fell behind in the 16th minute after Madagascar breached the Super Eagles’ offside trap, leaving goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali with no chance.
The hosts responded just before half-time, with debutant George Ilenikhena racing onto a well-weighted pass from Alex Iwobi before calmly finishing to draw Nigeria level.
Five minutes after the hour mark, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle made a bold double move, bringing on Moses Simon for his 100th international cap and handing a debut to Moses Usor.
The decision quickly paid dividends as Usor marked his first appearance for Nigeria with a memorable solo effort to put the Super Eagles ahead.
Nigeria held on for a 2-1 victory and will now turn their attention to Tuesday’s qualifier against Guinea-Bissau.
