The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkindaji, has commended the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS) for the recent successes recorded in the war against bandits and other criminal elements across the state.

The Speaker particularly applauded the security agencies for the successful rescue of 70 kidnapped victims and for inflicting heavy casualties on the criminals in a recent operation in his constituency, Mariga Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued in Minna by the Acting Director, Information and Public Relations, Niger State House of Assembly, Mairo Adamu Mani, Sarkindaji described the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorists, bandits and other hoodlums in the area.

He acknowledged the risks involved in such operations and expressed deep appreciation to the officers and men who put their lives on the line to ensure peace, stability and the safety of citizens, especially in his vulnerable constituency.

He hailed the Army and the DSS for their bravery and sense of professionalism, which resulted in the killing of scores of the bandits, and therefore urged them to sustain the momentum.

He pointed out that “this decisive action has greatly weakened the activities of criminal elements in the area and restored confidence among residents who have been under siege for some time now.”

Sarkindaji stated further that their sacrifices would not be in vain, and assured them of government support at all times in their efforts to restore peace to troubled communities across the state and Mariga Local Government in particular.

He expressed the state government’s readiness to provide all necessary assistance to strengthen security operations across the state.

According to him, “the government remains fully committed to working closely with all security agencies and stakeholders to ensure that the lingering insecurity challenges are completely addressed and brought to an end.”

He therefore solicited the support of the people in providing credible information to security agencies, and appealed to them to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, assuring them that the government considers the security of lives and property as its topmost priority.
