Niger school abduction: Nentawe assures safe return of abducted students, staff

From John Adams, Minna

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, on Wednesday paid sympathy visits to the Niger State Government and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) where he expressed optimism that the abducted children and teachers of St Mary’s Catholic Missionary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of the state, will be reunited with their parents very soon.

His first point of call was the Government House in Minna where he led the National Working Committee (NWC) to commiserate with Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago and the people of the state over the incident, and expressed solidarity with the governor to secure the release of the students.

Prof Nentawe Yilwatda told his host that the party is standing in solidarity with the government and people of the state over the abducted students.

Prof Yilwatda decried the rising cases of kidnapping in the country, especially the sequence in which they are happening.

According to him, “Our hearts are heavy, and we stand in solidarity with the government and people of the state in this moment of grief.”

The governor thanked the APC National Chairman and other members of the National Working Committee of the party for the visit, which he said demonstrates the brotherhood that exists in the party.

He called for continued prayers for the safe recovery of the missing school children and for sustainable peace in the state and the nation at large.

However, while at the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) secretariat, the APC Chairman said the party is standing in solidarity with the family, the Christian community, the government and people of Niger State.

According to him, “We are here to express our heartfelt sympathy over the kidnapping that happened in the state.

“Our hearts are with you, our prayers are with you and these children will be reunited with their parents as soon as possible.

“Wherever they are, I know that God will give them the strength and as we wait upon the Lord for their return, God will rescue them, God will bring them back because the whole country is in prayers.”

While commending the State Chairman and leadership of CAN, the APC National Chairman assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts are yielding positive results and prayed that the St Mary’s School children will soon be recovered safely.

In his remarks, the CAN Chairman, Most Rev Bulus Yohanna, who was represented by his vice Rev Ezekiel Ibrahim, commended the APC for the visit and assurance, adding that “prayers have been intensified”.
