Niger: Bandits attack Rep’s convoy

The convoy of the Member of the House of Representatives representing Borgu/Agwara Federal Constituency, Hon. Jafaru Mohammed Ali, came under heavy attacks from armed gunmen suspected to be bandits along Agwara-Babana road in Borgu local government area of Niger State.

The incident occurred at about 1:00pm Tuesday at Kuble community when the member was on his way to engage his constituents on critical developmental projects he intends to bring for the benefits of the area.

According to a source close to the community where the incident occurred, the gunmen opened fire when the member and his convoy ran into a road block mounted by them.

The level of casualties was not known as at the time of filing this report, but it was gathered that a number of security personnel attached to the House of Representatives member sustained various degrees of bullet injuries during the attack.

It was however gathered that soldiers were quickly mobilised to the area to rescue the victims and move the injured to the hospital for treatments.

The state police command is yet to issue a statement on this latest attack.
