• Seeks support of state’s traditional institution

As residents of Minna, the Niger State capital and its environs began to heave a sigh of relief following the reduction in the activities of miscreants that have made lives unbearable for the people in recent times, the state House of Assembly has commended the governor, Rt Hon Mohammed Umar Bago, for restoring peace to Minna, the State capital.

The House however urged the governor to extend a similar gesture to other parts of the state that have been under siege following the escalation of Bandits attacks which has left a number of villagers killed, women raped, many abducted and their properties looted in the last few weeks.

The House in a motion “commending the Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago for the successes recorded in the security improvement in Minna and its environs” moved by the member representing Bida South Hon. Mohammed Haruna drew the attention of the House to the relative peace that has returned to Minna the state capital and its environ since the governor assumed office in May 29.

He pointed out that the activities of the miscreants have posed a great security challenge in the state capital and have been a source of concern to the residents as these groups of hoodlums who usually move with all kinds of dangerous weapons unleashed terror on innocent people with reckless abandon.

According to him, “Since the inauguration of the governor, this menace has disappeared almost immediately and people are beginning to live their normal lives, this is worth commending.”

He acknowledged the fact that there is still more to do in the area of general security challenges in the state, the Governor needs to be commended for taming the activities of these miscreants within the short time in office.

Although members in their contributions acknowledged the efforts of the Governor so far, they nonetheless observed that it is not yet over as the security challenges bedevilling parts of the state have assumed a different dimension in the last few weeks, adding that villagers are being killed, women raped and cattle rustled by Bandits across the state.

While passing the vote of confidence on the Governor for restoring peace, the House urged him to as a matter of necessity, extend the same measure to the troubled parts of the state, especially now that the rainy season is here and the people need to go back to their farms.

Meanwhile, the House of Assembly has solicited the support of the traditional institution in the state for the present administration at all levels towards achieving the desired development and good governance that will improve the lives of the people.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkindaji stated this when he received the Emir of Agaie in the State, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Yusuf Nuhu who paid him a congratulatory visit for the successful inauguration of the 10th Assembly and his emergence as the Speaker.

The Speaker told the Royal father that the advice and counselling of the traditional institutions that are closer to the people are highly needed in other to achieve the objective of putting the state on the part of development.

The Speaker while thanking the Royal father for the visit promised that the 10th Assembly will continue to cooperate and work with the traditional institutions in the State to achieve the expected results.

The Speaker equally appealed to the traditional institutions to continue to support the state government’s drive towards eliminating issues of insecurity affecting some parts of the State for the common good of the people.

Earlier, the Emir congratulated the Speaker and Members of the Niger State House of Assembly for their successful inauguration and prayed for God’s guidance and Blessings as they discharge their statutory functions.

The royal father then assured the leadership and members of the 10th Assembly that the traditional institution in the state will work with them towards achieving good governance for the people in the state.
