Spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Ima Niboro, has urged FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and APC governors to end their public exchanges and concentrate on grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Niboro made the call on Wednesday while appearing on Arise Television’s The Morning Show, describing the disagreement between Wike and the APC governors as a “quarrel among siblings”.
His comments followed Wike’s criticism of the APC governors as “politically lazy” after the Progressive Governors’ Forum rejected political arrangements it said could undermine the party or President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The forum, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, said APC governors would not participate in, support or endorse any alliance capable of weakening the party, while maintaining that their campaign commitment was to APC candidates at all levels.
Wike, however, has maintained that his Rainbow Coalition is aimed at mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election and is separate from the APC. He has also said he never approached the APC governors for an alliance.
Reacting to the exchanges, Niboro called on both sides to reduce the rhetoric and focus on building political structures and engaging voters at the grassroots.
“When I said tone down the rhetoric, I do not mean stop working. Stop talking, go and work,” he said.
Niboro urged the political leaders to demonstrate their influence through direct engagement with voters instead of continuing their public disagreements.
“All this shouting is not taking anybody anywhere. Go and work. Go and establish your authority on your political base,” he said.
He added: “Get on the TV cameras. Go to the people. Go to the streets. Go to the marketplaces. Go and win the people.”
Niboro stressed that his position was not that either side should surrender its political interests, but that political leaders should focus on grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
“If you’re a political leader, stop talking. Go and work. That is my point,” he said.
The dispute comes as Wike and the APC governors continue to differ over the Rainbow Coalition, with the minister insisting that his support for Tinubu does not prevent the PDP from fielding candidates in other 2027 contests.
