The Ngwo Clan General Assembly has rejected the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and its candidates, declaring support for Governor Peter Mbah, Senator Osita Ngwu, and other candidates endorsed by the community.
The group also warned the NDC against campaigning in Ngwo land, alleging that the party had marginalised the clan politically despite the contributions of Ngwo sons and daughters to the development of Enugu State.
The position was contained in a statement issued by the President of Ngwo Clan General Assembly, Kenneth Ani Kofi, dated September 11, 2026. Kofi said the decision followed what he described as the NDC’s “great political dichotomy” against Ngwo people.
He recalled the role played by the late Chief C.C. Onoh in the struggle for the creation of Enugu State, questioned why the NDC would, allegedly, “damage Ngwo Clan politically” by creating what he described as a sectional political party in the state.
He said Ngwo people had initially accepted the NDC as an alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), with several sons and daughters purchasing nomination forms to contest various positions. He, however, alleged that none of them was given a ticket by the party.

“Despite this, the party did not deem it necessary to give even one of our sons or daughters a ticket, notwithstanding that one of our sons won the State House of Assembly primaries in Udi South Constituency,” he said.
Kofi declared that Ngwo sons and daughters across Enugu North, Enugu South, and Udi local government areas would not vote for the NDC or its candidates.
“The President, hereby, rejects NDC and all its candidates from the presidency down to councillorship and affirms that all Ngwo sons and daughters will not vote for NDC, and that the party should not bother coming for a campaign in Ngwo land,” he stated.
He said the community had endorsed Mbah, Senator Ngwu, Senator Kelvin Chukwu, Chimaobi Atu, Dr Festus Uzor, Dr Okey Aneke, Enugu North Council Chairman, Dr Ibenaku Onoh, Hyginus Agu, and other APC candidates.
Kofi said the endorsement was based on what he described as APC’s commitment to “equity, justice, fairness, and good governance.” He also praised Ngwu and Onoh for their alleged achievements in infrastructure, scholarship, empowerment, health, education, and human capital development.
The group pledged to mobilise voters for APC, beginning with the forthcoming local government elections.
