Ngwa Social Club appoints Onyendi chairman, planning c’ttee

Ngwa Social Club (NSC), the convener and promoter of the annual Ngwa Day Celebration, has appointed Dr. Brightman Onyendi, as the Chairman of the 2026 Ngwa Day Planning Committee.

The appointment was formally made public by the leader of Ngwa, Barr. Theo Nkire, during a reception held in honour of the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti.

According to the Leader of Ngwa, the choice of Dr. Onyendi followed extensive consultations across Ngwaland and was unanimously agreed upon and fully endorsed by all stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, professional bodies, youth groups, and Ngwa associations in the diaspora.

The Group maintained that ‘Ngwa Day’ has rapidly grown into a unifying cultural platform dedicated to celebrating the heritage, achievements, and collective aspirations of the Ngwa people while promoting cultural pride, economic cooperation, and social cohesion.

Speaking on behalf of the club, the President of Ngwa Social Club, Prof. Paul Ananaba, SAN, described the appointment as a reflection of collective confidence in Dr. Onyendi’s leadership capacity.

“Dr. Brightman Onyendi represents the excellence, vision, and commitment that Ngwa Day stands for. His unanimous endorsement by stakeholders across Ngwaland demonstrates the unity of purpose among our people as we continue to elevate Ngwa Day into a globally recognized cultural celebration,” Prof. Ananaba stated.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Onyendi expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work collaboratively with all stakeholders.

“I am deeply honoured by this responsibility and the overwhelming support of our people. Together, we will build on the successes of previous editions and deliver a 2026 Ngwa Day that reflects our shared heritage, innovation, and collective aspirations,” he assured.

The Ngwa Social Club reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with all Ngwa institutions and partners to ensure a memorable and impactful 2026 celebration.
