Contrary to his predecessor’s assertion that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was 90 percent self-sufficient, the president of the federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has said the situation is far from the truth.

It would be recalled that former president of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick had declared that the federation was 90 percent self-sufficient and promised that by the time he’s leaving, the NFF would have not cause to always go cap in hand to the government for funding.

But Alhaji Gusau told a select media in Lagos that he would not agree that the NFF could not be said to be self-sufficient.

“The NFF is not self-sufficient. We still need the Federal Government to bail us out from the terrible financial situation we’ve found ourselves in. For instance, we met a lot of debts we’re battling to pay and at the same time, we need funds to function effectively.

“In the face of dwindling resources, without the bail out from the Federal Government, there’s no way we can sustain the programmes of the federation. If at all, I can say we’re 40 percent self-sustained, that is why we want the Super Eagles to do well in Cote d’Ivoire so that we can begin to attract more sponsors,” Alhaji Gusau said.
