Veteran coach, Godwin Uwua, and renowned club administrator and players manager, Mike Idoko, have joined the growing list of credible stakeholders who have thrown their weights behind ex-Super Eagles’ attacker, Benedict Akwuegbu, to emerge as the next president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Uwua and Idoko, in separate interviews, described Akwuegbu as the most credible candidate for the NFF top seat and deserves the support of everyone who truly loves Nigerian football.

Uwua, who was part of Super Eagles coaching crew at the Korea/Japan 2002 FIFA World Cup, said he had closely monitored Akwuegbu’s resourcefulness besides the skills.

“Akwuegbu has been a constant contributor to the growth of Nigerian football from U-16, U-20, and down to the Super Eagles. He is surely the best that we should vote for as the NFF President. He has football clubs in Owerri and Mbaise, and academies in other parts of the country.

“Apparently Akwuegbu is giving back to the society that made him. All stakeholders would benefit if such a credible individual gets our backing. Enough of the terrible results and jerky developments we have had”, said the former coach of Lobi stars, Julius Berger, Enyimba, and Bendel Insurance football clubs.

Idoko, a former Nigeria Premier Football League Committee member, was more emphatic that Akwuegbu has the  credentials that qualify him to be the NFF president.

“Without mincing words, I’m backing Benedict Akwuegbu, who I have known many years ago in Jos, Plateau State. He is hardworking and cool headed. He has not been involved in any controversy or bad conduct. His goal scoring records in Nigeria, Europe, and Asia firmly confirm his quality. He did well as a club manager at Plateau United and Heartland of Owerri before setting up his multiple clubs in different parts of the country.

“Akwuegbu regularly pays salaries of coaches, players, and other backroom staff long after quitting active football. He has further prepared himself to rescue Nigeria Football by bagging a B. Sc Hons degree in the UK. I’m aware that Akwuegbu is currently studying for a very important degree in Nursing in London. Let’s encourage him and our football problems would be over when such a technocrat, supported by sincere veterans, mount the mattle of leadership”, concluded Idoko.

Other credible stakeholders who have thrown their weights behind Akwuegbu’s aspiration to become the next NFF president include Emmanuel Amuneke, Bitrus Bewarang, Kanu Nwankwo, Sam Pam Jnr, Sambo Choji, Uche Okechukwu, and Danjuma Isandu.
