Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu has given his blessings to Super Eagles’ striker, Benedict Akwuegbu for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) presidency race.
Akwuegbu, a member of the silver winning Nigeria side at 2000 Africa Cup of Nation, was endorsed during his courtesy visit to the Abuja residence of the former Governor of Abia State.
Akwuegbu praised the political icon for his support, promising to promote the country’s football to an enviable standard should he emerge winner in the September 30th election.
“I’m glad to receive support from a great man like Orji Uzor Kalu. He is a man I have always cherished following his massive success in the world of football with Enyimba International Football Club of Aba.
“What else can I say about the man whose knowledge was behind Enyimba’s tremendous record? I believe with his support, I’m good to go. I obtained the presidential form with the mindset of restructuring Nigeria football and with the backup received from him, I’m sure I’ll achieve my aim,” he told DailySun Sports.
