Nigeria’s football stakeholders will converge on Yenagoa today, for the 2026 Extraordinary General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation, a key meeting expected to shape critical decisions on the governance of the game.
Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, is billed to declare the assembly open at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall.
Among dignitaries expected at the event are Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko; the Commission’s Director General, Bukola Olopade; Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Abdul Ningi; and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Kabiru Amadu.

The Extraordinary General Assembly will bring together chairmen and secretaries of Football Associations from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside members of the NFF Executive Committee and management. Representatives of the domestic leagues, the Coaches Association, Referees Association and Players’ Union are also expected to attend.
President of the NFF, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, will deliver the welcome address ahead of the business session.
Key items on the agenda include deliberations on proposed amendments to the NFF Statutes, the Electoral Code and the Standing Orders of the General Assembly. The Congress will also appoint members of the NFF Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee, as well as an independent auditor for the federation.
Officials from global football body FIFA and continental authority Confederation of African Football are already in Nigeria to observe proceedings at the assembly.
