…Famous club owner to emerge substantive NFF President

Strong indication emerged on Thursday that the National Sports Commission (NSC) has concluded arrangements to appoint a northerner as head of the yet to be constituted Caretaker Committee to superintend the conduct of the election into the new board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), following the recent resignation of its President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau.
Gusau, who announced his resignation at a press conference in Abuja, claimed that the decision to resign was taken after careful consideration and in the overriding interest of Nigerian football.
“My resignation is intended to give way to a comprehensive and orderly reform process aimed at addressing the longstanding institutional, governance and developmental challenges confronting Nigerian football,” Gusau, who also functioned as President of WAFU B, said.
He insisted that he was leaving office with a sense of satisfaction over what his administration had been able to achieve during his tenure.
He highlighted renewed and vigorous focus on coaching education, noting that coaching courses have been organized in virtually all the license categories, with the long-awaited CAF A-License course set to commence next month.
A reliable source who made the disclosure to Daily Sun Sports in Abuja, also said that in line with the interim arrangements, a club owner from the southern part of the country has already been anointed to emerge the substantive President of the federation after the election conducted by the Caretaker Committee.

“Let me inform you that, in the interim, arrangements have been concluded that while a northerner will be the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, a southerner will be the next substantive President of the federation after the conduct of the board election.
“The Sports Commission will soon announce the composition of the Caretaker Committee to superintend the election of the new board within few months,” the source said.
Meanwhile, former General Secretary of the federation, Musa Amadu, has declined inclusion into the yet to be constituted Caretaker Committee, stressing that he is not interested because it will deny him from contesting membership of the next NFF board.
There have been speculations that Amadu would head the Committee or he may be elected as the First Vice President of the new board.
However, responding to the speculations, Amadu dismissed them in a chat with Daily Sun Sports, stressing that he is not interested in the inclusion as member of the board.
“Please, I am not interested in membership of any Committee because there is a statute that the committee members will not contest in the main board election. I don’t want anything to create an impediment against my interest in contesting the main board election,” he said.
