The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approved the appointments of experienced tactician Abdu Maikaba and football development expert Eboboritse Uwejamomere as head coaches of the country’s U20 and U17 boys’ national teams respectively.

The decision was ratified by the NFF Executive Committee following recommendations from the Federation’s Technical and Development Committee.

Maikaba takes charge of the Flying Eagles after years of coaching experience across some of Nigeria’s top clubs. The former Akwa United coach previously handled the Golden Eaglets and also served as assistant coach of the Flying Eagles during Paul Aigbogun’s tenure.

Widely respected for his calm approach and tactical discipline, Maikaba has managed clubs including Enyimba FC, Kano Pillars, Wikki Tourists and Plateau United. He notably guided Akwa United to victory in the 2017 Federation Cup, one of the club’s biggest achievements.

Meanwhile, Uwejamomere has been appointed head coach of the Golden Eaglets. The highly-rated youth development specialist has worked for several years as a coach-analyst with the Super Eagles and also served with the Super Falcons.

Currently head of academy at Sporting Lagos FC, Uwejamomere has extensive international experience, having worked as an academy youth development coach with English clubs Millwall FC, Gillingham FC and Nottingham Forest FC. He also previously handled Abeokuta-based Stormers FC.

In related football action, the national playoffs of the President Federation Cup produced several thrilling results across the men’s and women’s categories.

In the women’s fixtures, NAF Queens defeated Model Queens 3-1, while Mighty Jets Mata overcame Kada Queens 3-1. Ikukuoma Queens edged Bayelsa Princesses 2-1, and Esthinghton FC also secured a 2-1 victory over Zorha Queens.

In the men’s category, Sunshine U19 beat Harmony FC 3-1, while G12 FC defeated Dokkal Khairu FC 3-2 on penalties after a goalless draw. Westgate FC claimed a 2-0 win over Amanda FC, Kanta Warriors thrashed Zamfara United Feeders 3-0, and Adamawa Academy edged El-Kanemi Warriors Jnr 8-7 on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw. Sporting Supreme U19 also recorded the biggest win of the round with a commanding 5-0 victory against Reighner FC.
