The newly elected Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Southwest Zone, Dr. Isaac Kekemeke, has pledged to deliver the highest number of votes for President Bola Tinubu across the region in the 2027 general elections.
Kekemeke made the declaration on Wednesday in his victory speech following the party’s zonal congress at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, formerly known as Onikan Stadium, in Lagos. He also expressed confidence that the APC would wrest control of Osun, Ekiti, and Oyo states in the upcoming governorship contests, promising that his leadership team would surpass the achievements of the previous four years.
Speaking on behalf of Southwest APC governors at the event, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised the peaceful conduct of the congress as a reflection of the region’s political maturity and tradition of orderliness. He acknowledged the presence of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and commended delegates for their discipline.
Sanwo-Olu said the congress demonstrated lessons drawn from President Tinubu’s leadership. He also confirmed that the proceedings were conducted in accordance with the 2026 Electoral Act.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Zonal Congress Committee, Jide Jimoh, described the Southwest as a region with a long tradition of progressive politics and sound policymaking, and affirmed that the congress followed due process in line with electoral regulations. Delegates subsequently elected zonal executives through voice votes.
Those elected alongside Kekemeke include Alfred Aluko as Secretary, Ismail Majaro as Legal Adviser, Lateef Ibirogba as Organising Secretary, Ayobami Afolabi as Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Yetunde Adesanya as Woman Leader, Barr. Daramola Adesuyi as Youth Leader, and Dayo Ishola as Representative for Persons Living with Disabilities.
The congress was attended by Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, Lagos Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos House of Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, former Ogun Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba, Senate Leader Senator Michael Opeyemi, and Senator Tokunbo Abiru, among others.
