The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the death of two persons in Obegu-aba, Ozibo, in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State in an accident.
The incident occurred at about 7:40 a.m. on New Year’s morning along the Obegu-aba/Ogbaga road in the area.
The tragedy involved a Toyota Corolla car and a motorcycle.
The driver of the car fled the scene immediately after it occurred.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, said: “At about 07:40 a.m., the command received information about an accident at Obeagu village in Ebonyi LGA of Ebonyi State involving one metallic Corolla car with registration number 241-EBGH and a CY 80 motorcycle red in colour with reg number AFK 579 QX ridden by Mgbebu Elijah (m) aged about 19 yrs who was conveying one Mbam Chidera (m) aged about 19 yrs.
“Officers swiftly mobilised to the scene and took the victims to FETHA Abakaliki where the doctor on duty confirmed them dead.
“The driver fled the scene while concerted effort is in progress to trace and arrest the fleeing driver.”
