The New Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University Bokkos, Prof Benard Malau Matur, has called on Plateau stakeholders to give him the needed support to make the Institution a global citadel of learning.
Prof. Matur disclosed this on Wednesday while taking over the mantle of leadership as the 5th Vice Chancellor of the Institution from his predecessor, Prof. Yohanna Daniel Izam, at the Senate Chamber of the University in Bokkos, Plateau State.
He noted that moving the institution to greater heights is a collective task that must be accomplished with all vigour.
Prof. Matur was appointed the Vice Chancellor by Governor Simon Lalong following the recommendation of the Governing Council of the University. Until his appointment, he was the Commissioner for Higher Education, Plateau State.
He said, “I am praying to God to give me a double portion of wisdom that He has given my Predecessor Prof. Izam. I want the staff of this institution to know that we are partners in progress.
“I will plead with every one of us to join hands together to move this University forward. We must put aside all forms of sentiments to move the institution to greater heights.”
He called on the support of the critical stakeholders in the country to enable him to provide quality leadership for the growth and advancement of education in the institution.
The immediate Vice Chancellor, Prof Yohanna Daniel Izam in his valedictory speech, appreciated the University’s management for giving him the needed support to excel as Vice-Chancellor.
He noted that the Institution recorded a huge academic success where all programmes of the institution where the number of accredited programmes in the institution increased from 16 to 17 programmes.
Prof. Izam explained that the market value of the University is currently standing at over N19 billion which represents an increase of over 13 per cent in the last 5 years when the institution was estimated to be worth about N18 billion.
“There are no doubt areas that must be improved such as the issue of timely process and template for results, academic mentorship supported by a better welfare environment which is a function of improved revenues.
“I have already on account of our shared experiences donated myself as a visiting professor to the building Department of this institution for as long as the University will require my services,” he stated.
