From George Onyejiuwa, Owerri

A new militant group, the Red Scorpion, in Imo State,  has claimed responsibility for the blowing up of two pipelines, Elf Oil Company in Awara, Ohaji Egbema Council Area of Imo State.
It threatened to blow up Shell pipelines in Oguta.
The group, in a post on its Facebook account, yesterday, said the threat should not be taken as an empty one as they have the capability to carry it out.
It warned that until oil-producing areas in the state are given their due, the oil companies operating in the areas will know no peace.
Meanwhile, some of the ex-militants from the area, who confirmed the existence of the new group, however, said they were not part of the renewed militancy.
According to one ex- militant who preferred anonymity, “people getting angry and blowing up pipelines is no longer news. They can blow up pipelines and call themselves any name.”
