A handbook on skill acquisition training and empowerment programs has been unveiled. It is authored by Dr. Ben Onoriode Irikefe, a member of the Presidential Panel on National Security and consultant to the Federal Government on the training of ex-militants in the Niger Delta.

Irikefe said the book dwells on a holistic approach to the skill acquisition training of members of the Civilian JTF, repentant Boko Haram operatives and ex-militants in the country:

“It explains a step-by-step module of how life and business skills can be transferred to young, indigent, frustrated and angry Nigerians. Also, the book is a compendium of skill acquisition and entrepreneurial trainings for the teaming population of unemployed youths not only in Nigeria but in every part of the world.”

The book reviewer, Sunday Onyewonsa, said: “The book is good for governments across tiers,” he said, noting that except the recommendations made by the author were adopted with the needed political will, the unemployment and self reliance drive of the Federal Government would be an illusion.

“This book is capable of facilitating the lifting of several people out of poverty worldwide and the revolutionising conventional educational systems.”

Andrew Okosodo, chairman, Book Presentation Committee, recommended the book for tertiary institutions in the country, stressing that the book should be accommodated in school curriculums to pave way for vocational education so as to de-emphasize dependency on white collar jobs in the country.
