Residents of Enugu and Ebonyi states are expected to enjoy improved electricity supply following the commissioning of a new 75MVA 132/33kV power transformer at the Mile 50 Abakaliki Transmission Substation in Ebonyi State at the weekend.

According to a statement, the commissioning will boost the substation’s capacity to 135MVA, enhancing its wheeling capacity and enabling more bulk power supply to Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) for distribution to Ebonyi State and parts of Cross River State.

General Manager, Enugu Region (Transmission), Dr Thomas Inugonum, revealed that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has approved the procurement of a new 60MVA power transformer to replace a decommissioned leaking unit. This, the statement noted, will add 48MW to the substation’s capacity upon completion.

“This transformer project is part of the ongoing TCN-World Bank power projects aimed at further enhancing power supply in Nigeria,” the statement further noted.
